Stayed in the Coachmans Quarters for the night before we attended an event at the castle. Lovely comfortable room with access to a kitchen which we used for breakfast. The room overlooked the Hawk & Owl centre which gave us interesting views in the morning :)

We went here for the Christmas wonderland that was on.... Wasn't great to be honest! Seemed like it was thrown together and not much going on for the ticket price. Staff were great and the castle itself is cool but the event was a bit pants

Muncaster Castle is a not to be missed, they put on the most amazing events, the 'Starry Night' this year was particularly brilliant, lovey meal, then out side to see 2 displays of owls flying in the night skies breathtaking. Today the castle had local choir 'Phoenix Praise' singing Christmas Carols 2 performances, one late morning then a break see visitors could have lunch and then watch owl display, then an afternoon performances

Amazing service from staff. They went out of their way to cater for our vegan diets. The owl and bird of prey display was also fantastic. Must if in the area.

What an amazing place! The castle is fascinating with the best 'Can you find the item in the room?' trail I have ever used (not sure if it's just meant for kids but I (51) loved it!). The hexagonal library is a room I'd happily die in - just wow! Also the owl display is excellent; interesting facts from enthusiastic staff and lots of owls swooping so low they brush past your hair. We didn't have time to explore the gardens so we must come back. Oh, and the food in the stables cafe was delicious and beautifully presented, however don't believe them when they say 'light bites' as the portion was anything but!

A fantastic place with amazing scenery and history. It's quite a remote location so little to do regarding nightlife but for a relaxing break it's perfect. The bird of prey centre on site is brilliant and included in your price if you stay over. Nice little cafe as well with reasonable priced food.

We visited on there Halloween event, so much to see and do, my children had a great time despite the slightly wet weather. Plenty of food and drink too.

Excellent day out at Muncaster Castle. The castle itself is very interesting and plenty of the rooms are open to view - it is occupied by the family, so think more 'stately home' than 'dungeons and turrets'. The grounds and woodlands are super, and there are several innovative children's play areas. The highlight was the two birds of prey flying displays: owls in the morning and eagles/hawks in the afternoon. These were truly memorable, spectacular, and moving. I suggest going when the weather is dry in order to make the most of your visit - I wouldn't want to do the long walk from the car park to the castle in heavy rain but, in fine weather, it's a pleasant stroll through the mature woodlands. Highly recommended! PS - some people, including myself, have mixed feelings about zoos and animals in captivity. However, the self-evident passion, care, and loving relationship that the experts have with the resident birds of prey help to put such concerns to rest. When you witness an eagle or falcon fly freely into the far, far distance, and return voluntarily to its handler (albeit with the bribe of food) it probably means the bird is content. I'm not an expert, but I believe this kind of treatment is the best of its kind, and I suspect any local wild birds of prey would look upon their (well-fed, well-housed) captive cousins with a certain amount of envy, especially given the regular opportunities they have to stretch their wings. This is a lot more than the commonplace sight of zoos which include majestic birds confined in aviaries. BTW, the music played during the afternoon eagle/falcon display adds significant emotion to the experience.
